Orthognathic surgery is required when the jaws do not align correctly. This procedure not only improves appearance but also ensures proper functioning.

Who Needs Orthognathic Surgery?

Jaw growth is a gradual process and in some instances, the upper and lower jaws grow at different rates. The results can lead to problems chewing and/or talking as well as compromises to long-term oral health and appearance. Orthodontics alone can usually correct bite problems limited to the teeth, but orthognathic surgery is required to realign the jaws.

Difficulty in the following areas should be evaluated:

  • Difficulty chewing, biting or swallowing
  • Speech problems
  • Chronic jaw or TMJ pain
  • Open bite
  • Protruding jaw
  • Breathing problems

These symptoms may be present at birth or they may be acquired later on in life. During your initial exam, Dr. Narra will work with you to determine the best possible treatment route based on your x-rays, physical evaluation and health history. You are encouraged to ask as many questions as possible throughout the process.

If you are a candidate for Corrective Jaw Surgery, Dr. Narra will work closely with your dentist and orthodontist for the duration your treatment. Results of the procedure include but are not limited to a more attractive smile, a more comfortable bite, and improved overall health.
